Checkout Decline Codes

The issuer has declined the transaction and asks the cardholder to contact them. This is a generic referral response.

The issuer has declined the transaction under special conditions. The cardholder should contact their bank.

The merchant ID or service provider configuration is invalid. This is typically a technical setup issue.

The issuer has declined the transaction without providing a specific reason. This is the most common decline code and covers a wide range of issuer-side rejections.

The request contained invalid parameters. The issuer or gateway could not process the transaction as submitted.

The transaction is currently being processed. A duplicate request may have been submitted.

The issuer has rejected the transaction as invalid. The transaction type or parameters are not accepted.

The transaction amount is invalid or outside the acceptable range.

The issuer does not allow this type of transaction for this cardholder. This may be due to card restrictions or a restricted recipient BIN.

The issuer has flagged this transaction as potentially fraudulent.

The cardholder has exceeded their daily or periodic spending limit set by the issuer.

The card has been restricted by the issuer and cannot be used for this transaction.

The transaction timed out — the issuer or network did not respond within the allowed time.

The card data provided is invalid. This typically indicates an incorrect CVV and/or expiry date.

The issuer's system is unavailable or the network switch is inoperative. The transaction cannot be authorized at this time.

The transaction cannot be completed due to a violation of applicable law or regulation.

A system error occurred during transaction processing. This is a temporary technical failure.

The expiration date provided is in an invalid format or does not match the card on file.

The card number does not correspond to any known account, or the token is invalid.

The merchant ID or wallet ID is invalid or not recognized.
